After their bout at WrestleMania 36 was postponed owing to Reigns taking a break, Goldberg would make his comeback to challenge Reigns to a match for the title at Elimination Chamber, a contest two years in the making. Goldberg was defeated by Reigns by technical submission to keep the championship at the competition. He won the WWE Championship for the fourth time at WrestleMania 38 by defeating Brock Lesnar, making him the first wrestler to simultaneously hold both the WWE Championship and the WWE Universal Championship.
