The first trailer for Marvel’s Thor: Love & Thunder has arrived, just over a month before the film’s premiere. The highly anticipated picture, which will be released exclusively in cinemas in July, will be a first for the MCU in that it will be the first time a character will receive a fourth solo film. In this new adventure, Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Thor, but he won’t be the only version of the hammer-wielding character to appear. Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor will also be introduced in Love & Thunder, with Natalie Portman returning to the MCU after a hiatus from 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.
Marvel Studios debuted the first footage from Thor: Love and Thunder during Sunday night’s MTV Movie & TV Awards. The footage, which features a critical moment between exes Thor and Jane, was introduced by Waititi. Thor: Love and Thunder has a new trailer. It’s a longer version of the scene seen briefly in the trailer, in which Mjolnir reappears with a new wielder. God of Thunder, played by Chris Hemsworth, is shown fighting in the longer version. When he sees the magical hammer, he calls out to it as if it were a dog, “Mjolnir! Mjolnir, here, boy!” He sees the divine sword, which has cracks running across its head, and reaches out his hand to touch it.
Mjolnir, on the other hand, remains just out of grasp and instead turns his attention to Mighty Thor, who is now Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). She spins the weapon, but we can’t see what’s going on because the scene stops before we can see what’s going on. The scene is so fantastic that we almost wish it had been saved for the movie rather than a trailer. Thor is clearly taken aback by the fact that Mjolnir has been mended.
Although Jane has been shown in her full Mighty Thor form in Love & Thunder, there is still a lot more to learn about how she got to this position. The movie will at least largely adapt the Mighty Thor storyline from the comics, which featured Jane battling illness as she transitioned into her new heroic character.
Regardless, Jane’s Mighty Thor will undoubtedly play a significant role in Thor: Love & Thunder. It appears that the movie will have a lot of fun reuniting these two powerful beings, based on Thor’s shocked reaction to seeing her in the new preview. When Thor: Love & Thunder arrives next month, it will be intriguing to see what happens after this tense first meeting.
