On Tuesday, President Zelensky asked for help from the US. Following his appeal, Netflix has allowed his comedy series, “Servant of The People” to stream for US streamers. The show was first premiered in 2015, ran for three seasons, and ended in 2019. Netflix announced that the show is available for US subscribers. “Servant of The People” is a satirical comedy series starring Volodymyr Zelensky who is playing a school teacher who unexpectedly becomes Ukraine’s One President after a video of him ranting about the corrupt government goes viral. The video has been recorded by one of his students who further uploaded it on Youtube and turned him into an Internet sensation. One of the screenwriters on the show is Zelensky’s wife Olena Zelensky.
On March 16, Netflix announced the return of the show for US streamers via a tweet, “You asked and it’s back! Servant of the People is once again available on Netflix in The US. The 2015 satirical comedy series stars Volodymyr Zelenskyy playing a teacher who unexpectedly becomes President after a video of him complaining about corruption suddenly goes viral .”
The show was a huge hit in Ukraine and set up Zelensky’s career in politics. He was elected as President the same year the show ended in 2019. The name of his party is also similar to the show’s name. He has won the election and got more than 73 percent of the votes. The series was earlier on Netflix from 2017 to 2021. Since the war between Russia and Ukraine has started, many channels that have got the rights to the show like Channel 4 in Britain, ANT 1 in Greece have already aired the show on their channel. The movie might be a huge weapon against Russia.
Fans are excited about the news and soon reacted to the tweet. One commented, “The incredible irony when fiction becomes reality! Thanks #Netflix for making the video #ServantOfThePeople available for streaming.”
