Taylor Swift continues to surprise fans with the announcement of a third and final limited special edition of her highly anticipated album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” Following the theme of the previous editions, this variant will feature a bonus track titled “The Black Dog,” unveiled during a secret songs segment at the closing night of Swift’s engagement in Singapore.
The title “The Black Dog” is sure to intrigue fans, as it references a popular expression for depression or melancholy, tracing its origins back to the 18th century and gaining prominence in the 20th century through its association with figures like Winston Churchill. While details about the song remain scarce, Swift teased a presumed lyrical snippet, “Old habits die screaming…,” in her social media announcement.
Unlike the previous cover art, which depicted Swift in various poses, the cover for this edition showcases her upright but tangled in her own arms, captured in a striking photograph by Beth Garrabant. Adding to the thematic resonance, the vinyl edition will be available exclusively in black.
This special edition of the album will be offered solely through Swift’s webstore, with sales closing on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Previous limited editions of “The Tortured Poets Department” featured bonus tracks “The Albatross” and “The Bolter,” both of which are now sold out. However, a deluxe edition with “The Manuscript” as the extra track is still available for purchase. All physical editions of the album, including CD, vinyl, and cassette, feature one of these four bonus tracks, while the digital release does not include a bonus song.
Set for release on April 19, “The Tortured Poets Department” promises to be a captivating exploration of Swift’s artistry, showcasing her penchant for storytelling and musical innovation. With each special edition offering a unique glimpse into her creative vision, fans can anticipate an immersive and unforgettable listening experience.
