In a candid and revealing moment on her TikTok series, “Used to Be Young,” pop sensation Miley Cyrus shed light on her past, recalling the ambitious journey of her Bangerz Tour back in 2014. The multi-talented artist, now 30, shared her determination to bring her creative vision to life, even if it meant footing the entire bill herself.
Cyrus acknowledged that her Bangerz Tour was more than just a series of concerts; it was an investment in herself and her artistic dreams. Despite the skepticism from others who questioned the financial viability of a tour featuring around 100 shows, Cyrus remained resolute in her decision.

“I didn’t make a dime on this tour because I wanted the tour to be excellent,” Cyrus confessed during the TikTok session. “When everyone kept saying, ‘Why are you doing this? You’re going to do like 100 shows and not going to make any money,’ I said, ‘There’s no one I would rather invest in than myself.’ So I paid for it all to make it exactly what I thought I and the fans deserved.”
The Bangerz Tour was renowned for its outlandish and campy nature, featuring oversized props, big puppets, and surreal visuals. It was a reflection of Cyrus’s unique artistic vision, but few on her team at the time fully comprehended her ideas.
Cyrus reminisced about one of the concert’s iconic concepts, which she developed alongside her creative director, Diane Martel. The grand finale of the show was inspired by the movie “The Truman Show,” where she flew out on a giant hot dog, exiting through the clouds and an illuminated exit sign—a nod to Jim Carrey’s character’s exit in the film.
The artist‘s “Used to Be Young” series serves as a platform for her to reflect on various aspects of her life and career. Accompanying the series is her poignant single of the same name, delving into her past experiences and perceptions throughout her journey.
Cyrus has also addressed controversies from her early career, including the 2009 Teen Choice Awards performance of “Party in the U.S.A.” where she faced criticism for holding onto a pole. She clarified that it was merely for stability, not a stripper pole, and expressed her frustration at the misunderstanding.
Through her candid revelations, Miley Cyrus continues to captivate her audience, offering insights into her remarkable journey as a multifaceted artist and the unwavering determination to bring her creative visions to life, regardless of the cost.
