Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves are all set to share the screen for ‘Ballerina’, a John Wick spin-off. Ana de Armas is going to take over the role of Rooney from Unity Phelan that portrayed the ballerina-turned-assassin in chapter 3 of John Wick universe.
Total Film has recently released covers arts for ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ which’s going to arrive in theaters this March. In the interview with Total Film, Reeves said, “[The director] has a vision, but is also embracing, affectionately, the world of John Wick … there’s a reason for [John] to be in ‘Ballerina;’ it’s very organic. And working with Ana was great. She really loves action, and she’s really good at it.” He also shared his excitement for the action scenes involving Ana de Armas.
The spin-off is going to be revenge themed as Rooney, played by de Armas gives her everything to avenge her family’s murder. It is going to take place in between ‘Chapter 3’ and ‘Chapter 4’ events. Ian McShane, Lance Reddick and Anjelica Huston are set to star alongside de Armas in the revenge thriller.
Can more ‘John Wick’ spin-offs be expected?
The film’s co-writer Shay Hatten talked about potential of the franchise in a recent interview. He said, “I think this movie is just opening up more and more avenues of this world. There’s all these little pockets of different crime families, and different corners of the world that John might never have a reason to go visit in his mainline story quest. But ‘Ballerina,’ through the lens of the ballet theatre that we see John visit in the third movie, explores a character who’s come up through that, and then gets sent on a journey to a new pocket of the Wick world that I think is a concept that we haven’t seen in any of the four previous movies. I think it really just shows this limitless potential for expanding and exploring the grey areas of this world.”
So, it’s obvious that, if ‘Ballerina’ is received well by the audience at the box office, we could very well get more ‘John-Wick’ spin-offs in future.
