The Alabama girl who had been reported missing from the front yard of a Walker County residence was discovered inside her father’s SUV, hidden deep inside the kudzu, across the street from the scene of the car’s claimed theft.
Both the SUV and the kid were not likely stolen, according to police on Tuesday. Just before 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, law enforcement personnel performing their fourth search of the area discovered Harlow Darby Freeman, a 9-month-old baby. Danny Woodard, the police chief in Parrish, stated that “daylight was our friend on this one.”
Harlow, according to the chief, was discovered in her car seat. He claimed that one of the windows had been broken out due to a separate event, giving her some ventilation. Despite being dehydrated, Harlow is in good health. To be examined, she was brought to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. Woodard stated that although the investigation is still ongoing, they now think it is unlikely that the SUV was stolen.

He suggested that it’s likely that the car may not have been put in park and may have rolled hundreds of yards down a sizable hill and into the dense kudzu. Or, he added, someone else might have carried it out. The girl was reportedly in her car seat in the back seat of her father’s SUV when he raced into a friend’s house, according to Harlow’s father, who reported the incident to Parrish police shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday.
According to family, the SUV was stolen a minute later with Harlow still inside. Woodard claimed on Tuesday that there were numerous reports of the SUV swerving out of the area at high speeds. At 9:40 p.m., the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency issued an Amber Alert. Bethany Smith, Harlow’s mother, wrote on Facebook that her child was in a car seat in an SUV’s back seat when it was stolen. The car in question is a white 2009 Lexus RX350 with the licence plate 3880AR8. On the passenger side of the vehicle’s rear, there are visible transparent tape repairs.
I’m pleading with you to bring my child to me, Smith wrote. “You can leave the infant anywhere you like; just give me a call or send me a message to let me know where she is.” I promise there won’t be any inquiries. It’s been a long night, he remarked. About 100 police officers participated in the nocturnal hunt. Woodard declared, “This is not something that happens in a small town like Parrish.” It’s a strange turn of events, I must say. Fortunately, the child was discovered to be safe, and we will keep looking.
