Apple has released the official trailer for John Carney’s upcoming film “Flora and Son,” starring Eve Hewson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The heartwarming story follows single mother Flora (Hewson) and her rowdy teenage son, Max (Orén Kinlan), as they discover the transformative power of music with the help of a washed-up L.A. musician (Gordon-Levitt). The film highlights the special bond between a mother and her son. “Flora and Son” will be in select theaters on September 22 and will be available globally on Apple TV+ on September 29.

Emmy Award-winning composer Geoff Zanelli has been tapped to score the upcoming Netflix animated musical comedy “Leo.” The film, set to release on November 21, stars Adam Sandler, who also produces the film. “Leo” tells the story from the perspective of a 74-year-old class pet lizard named Leo (Sandler) in his last year of elementary school. As Leo’s days are numbered, he hatches a plan to experience the outside world and gets entangled in the students’ issues along the way. Zanelli’s composition will add depth to this heartwarming tale.

The Motion Picture and Television Fund (MPTF) is hosting a food distribution event titled “We Take Care of Our Own” on August 24. The event aims to assist entertainment industry workers affected by ongoing Hollywood strikes. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the MPTF campus, located at 23388 Mulholland Drive in Woodland Hills, workers will have access to food, household products, personal items, and diapers. This initiative is a collaborative effort by MPTF, Teamsters, IATSE, Labor Community Services, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, and Matthew 25 Ministries.

Tim McGovern, a founding member of the Visual Effects Society (VES), has been honored with the 2023 VES Founders Award. Additionally, several individuals have been added to the society. Archivist Sandra Joy Aguilar, producer and AMPAS governor Brooke Breton, VFX artist agent and executive Bob Coleman, and Tim McGovern have all received lifetime VES memberships. These honorees have significantly contributed to the field of visual effects, and their impact will be celebrated at an exclusive event in October.
