Lauren Ambrose has been cast in “Yellowjackets” season 2, according to a Thursday Showtime announcement. Production on the second season of Yellowjackets will start later this month in Vancouver, and Ambrose will play the adult version of Van, who is currently played by Liv Hewson as a teenager. Hewson has been upgraded to a series regular for the second season of the show, the production firm also revealed. The squad of incredibly gifted high school girls and soccer players who end up as the survivors of an aircraft accident in the middle of a remote northern wilderness will continue to be the focus of the award-winning series. Season 2 is predicted to debut in early 2023.

Van, the soccer team’s goalie, is a character in the series who is romantically involved with Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown). We know that Taissa went on to become a state senator with a son, but since Van was not present in 2021, viewers will learn what happened to her in the upcoming season. Van participated in a strange wilderness tribute when we last saw her in the story, which likely left some wounds for her adult counterpart to contend with.

Ambrose gained prominence most notably for her portrayal of Claire Fisher in the lauded HBO series Six Feet Under. She received two Emmy nominations for her performance. She also appeared in USA’s Dig, The X Files, and Torchwood. She currently plays a key role in M. Night Shyamalan’s Apple TV+ series Servant. Her work in My Fair Lady earned her a Tony Award nomination, and she later starred in the motion pictures Wanderlust and Where the Wild Things Are.

Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, who previously collaborated on The Originals, the spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, Narcos and Narcos: Mexico on Netflix, and Dispatches From Elsewhere on AMC, are the creators of Yellowjackets. They received both WGA and their first-ever Emmy nominations for the critically praised Yellowjackets. Along with Jonathan Lisco, Lyle and Nickerson co-showrun and co-produce the show. Showtime has not announced an official release date for Season 2 of Yellowjackets.
