Alejandro Monteverde, the director behind the 2023 box office hit “Sound of Freedom,” is gearing up for his next project, “Cabrini,” set to hit theaters on March 8, 2024.
Distributed by Angel Studios, the same indie distributor that brought you “Sound of Freedom,” “Cabrini” dives into the remarkable life story of Francesca Cabrini. She was an Italian American religious sister who founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and achieved the distinction of becoming the first U.S. citizen to be canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church. According to the film’s press release, Cabrini was not only a religious figure but also a formidable social entrepreneur who left an indelible mark on the 19th century.

Cabrini’s journey was one of unyielding determination, courage, compassion, and business acumen. She battled against the rampant sexism and violent anti-Italian prejudice of her time, all while challenging a resistant establishment that sought to suppress her. Her inspiring life story highlights her unwavering resolve to effect positive change in the world.
Cristiana Dell’Anna takes on the role of Francesca Cabrini, supported by a talented cast that includes John Lithgow, David Morse, Giancarlo Giannini, and Federico Castelluccio.
Liz Ellis, Angel Studios’ chief operating officer, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Francesca Cabrini is one of the most inspiring and influential figures in modern history, and yet few know her story. Faced with seemingly insurmountable life obstacles, Cabrini chose instead to focus on how she could change the status quo in her time, and her impact on the world is still felt today.”
“We’re thrilled to be able to share her unbelievable story in theaters this spring. This will be our second collaboration with ‘Sound of Freedom’ director Alejandro Monteverde — and the Angel Guild gave this film even higher ratings than ‘Sound of Freedom.’ Our community has high expectations for this project.”
Alejandro Monteverde’s previous film, the gripping child trafficking thriller “Sound of Freedom,” featuring Jim Caviezel, made a significant impact when it opened with nearly $20 million in the U.S. and Canada. Since then, it has continued to captivate audiences, accumulating just under $182 million at the domestic box office.
With “Cabrini,” Monteverde and Angel Studios are poised to deliver another compelling cinematic experience that sheds light on the life of an extraordinary historical figure, promising an uplifting and thought-provoking story for audiences in 2024.
