Carrie Underwood, celebrated as one of the most accomplished country musicians of our time, has risen to global stardom since her breakthrough on American Idol in 2005. Her impressive musical journey has been accompanied by numerous accolades, record-breaking hits, and an unwavering fan base. However, even amidst the glitz and glamour of her career, Underwood faced a deeply personal and painful battle in 2017 and early 2018 when she confronted the heartache of three miscarriages.

When Carrie Underwood Opened Up About Suffering Three Miscarriages

In 2018, during an intimate interview with Tracy Smith from CBS News, Carrie Underwood delved into the emotional and challenging aspects of her life. While discussing her music and life’s ups and downs, the conversation touched upon a profoundly sensitive topic – her struggles with miscarriages. Reflecting on the title track of her album, “Cry Pretty,” the singer candidly shared her ordeal.

Underwood revealed, “Here we go. Oh, lawdy! 2017 just wasn’t how I imagined it. I’d kind of planned that 2017 was, you know, going to be the year that I work on new music, and I have a baby. We got pregnant in early 2017, and it didn’t work out.”

Initially, she tried to maintain a positive outlook, believing, “Okay, God, we know this is just wasn’t Your timing. And that is all right. We will bounce back and figure our way through it.” Yet, the difficulties persisted, as she became pregnant once again in the spring, only to face another heartbreaking miscarriage. Tragically, the battle was not over, as she became pregnant for a third time, yet this pregnancy ended in another miscarriage.

During these trying times, interviews and songwriting became a form of therapy for Underwood. She explained, “Because I would literally have these horrible things going on in my life, and then have to go smile and, like, do some interviews or, like, do a photo shoot or something, you know? So it was just kind of, like, therapeutic.”

Carrie Underwood’s Struggles with Anger After Miscarriages

The artist, then 37 years old, candidly confessed that she had always been hesitant to express anger, feeling that she was immensely blessed. She elaborated, “I have this amazing life. Like, really, what can I complain about? I can’t. I have an incredible husband, incredible friends, an incredible job, an incredible kid. Can I be mad? No.” However, she acknowledged that she did indeed feel anger.

Reportedly, Underwood recalled a poignant moment when she found herself “sobbing” while cradling her firstborn. In her vulnerability, she questioned, “Why on Earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid? Like, what is this? Shut the door. Like, do something. Either shut the door or let me have a kid.”

Fortunately, the story takes a positive turn. In 2019, Carrie Underwood and her husband Mike Fisher welcomed their second son, Jacob Bryan Fisher, into the world, bringing immense joy and happiness to their family. Recently, young Jacob celebrated his fourth birthday, a milestone that Underwood joyfully marked on her Instagram.

Carrie Underwood’s candid revelations about her struggles and triumphs resonate with many, showcasing her strength, resilience, and the power of her music to heal and inspire.
