What is the connection between these two worlds you ask… well nothing really! That’s what makes this project so unique! Doron, an established OBGYN, fell in love with drifting after a trip to Budapest. He spent a few years learning the sport until one day he decided to build a drift car… from an old BMW E46… and the E46 project was born. The new 3-part series brings to life the doctor’s journey & experiences building this BMW drifting machine. We checked-in with Director Tallis Clarke on directing the series.
“The project definitely caught my attention. From a story point of view, it was interesting and visually I knew it had great potential. When I got the call from BMW, I asked if I could first interview our main character Doron. We had a big chat about the project and intricate details of what filming would entail, understanding that this would take over a year to film. I loved the idea that we could build a beautiful framework for the series, however there would be lots of room for creativity along the way.”
The project was filmed and edited over a 1.5-year period following the highs and lows of sourcing all the parts, the designing, and the actual build. The series ends with a climactic sequence. I won’t give too much away… but it must be seen!
“To film the final sequence, I decided to use FPV drones to really immerse the viewer in the drive experience,” the director explains.
Overall, a great short series that went live in the Middle East where it was filmed, to hundreds of thousands of viewers online and across a variety of television networks. This series is a great way for brands to share real stories and engage with their audience, through hiring some of the best directors in the space to deliver a top-level piece.
We look forward to seeing more work out of Tallis Clarke and his collaboration with BMW as well as other automotive companies who are sharing these amazing stories!
