Felicity Huffman Reflects on Life After College Admissions Scandal

It has been nearly five years since the college admissions scandal rocked Hollywood, and Felicity Huffman is opening up about how her life has changed since then.

In an interview with The Guardian published on Tuesday, the 61-year-old actress provided an update on her well-being, acknowledging the complexity of the question. “How I am is kind of a loaded question. As long as my kids are well and my husband is well, I feel like I’m well,” she said.

“I’m grateful to be here,” she added. “But how am I? I guess I’m still processing.”

Huffman, who is married to fellow actor William H. Macy, 73, and shares two daughters with him, Sophia Grace Macy, 23, and Georgia Grace Macy, 21, reflected on her involvement in the scandal. In September 2019, she was sentenced to two weeks in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to helping her eldest daughter secure a place at college. She also faced fines, community service, and supervised release, completing her sentence in October 2020.

Since the scandal, Huffman has had limited opportunities in her acting career. “I did a pilot for ABC recently that didn’t get picked up. It’s been hard,” she admitted. “Sort of like your old life died and you died with it. I’m lucky enough to have a family and love and means, so I had a place to land.”

The scandal, known as “Operation Varsity Blues,” not only had legal consequences for Huffman but also had a profound impact on her personal and professional life. Despite the challenges, she remains grateful for the support of her family and the stability they provide.

As Huffman continues to navigate the aftermath of the scandal, she remains focused on processing her experiences and finding meaning in her life beyond the controversy that once engulfed her.
