The Woman King, the highly anticipated new Viola Davis film, is about to hit theatres around the world and will be available on Netflix in two regions within the next year, with others to follow later.
The film, which recently debuted at TIFF to generally positive reviews, is aiming for a theatrical release on September 16th, 2022. The film, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, is about an all-female warrior unit that protected Dahomey in West Africa in the nineteenth century. Viola Davis leads the cast, which also includes Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, and John Boyega.
When will The Woman King be available globally on Netflix?
As a result of the agreement reached in 2021, all theatrical releases will be available on Netflix for the first window. The deal’s kinks are still being ironed out, but as of now, we know the movie should be available on Netflix between 120 and 168 days from the time Umma did (which is when Uncharted hit Netflix).
This means that between January 14th, 2023, and March 3rd, 2022, The Woman King is currently anticipated to be available for streaming on Netflix US. In the upcoming months, Father Stu, Bullet Train, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, and Devotion are among the Sony films that will be available on Netflix US.
Although it is much simpler to predict release dates than in the United States, Sony Pictures and Netflix India are currently collaborating on a first-window output deal. New Sony films have always been released in India exactly 120 days after their theatrical debut. You should therefore receive the film in January 2023.
While neither Netflix nor Sony actively promote any deals, new Sony movies are promptly added to Netflix in many different regions. Around two years after their theatrical release, Sony movies are available on Netflix Canada and the UK. Regions like Belgium, Greece, Japan, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and South Africa are also affected by this.
That means The Woman King will be available on Netflix in these regions sometime in 2024.
