Ben Affleck will return as the superhero Batman in the upcoming Aquaman sequel from Warner Bros. Jason Momoa announced the information on Instagram on Friday. Jason Momoa revealed that Justice League co-star Ben Affleck will appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, reuniting Arthur Curry and Bruce Wayne. After fans on a Warner Bros. bus tour presumably learned that Affleck was there filming with him, Momoa announced the news on Instagram on Thursday.
“REUNITED,” he captioned on Instagram. “bruce and arthur. He added, “Love u and miss u Ben. WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. busted on set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha j.”
Affleck already declared his intention to stepdown from the Batman role in 2019 and has been candid about the emotional and professional challenges that come with it. Therefore, it was unexpected two years ago when it was announced that Affleck will don the costume once more for The Flash, a movie with Ezra Miller that will be released on June 23, 2023, and that will also star Michael Keaton as Batman.
It was believed that would be Affleck’s last performance in the part, but with Lost Kingdom set to release on March 17, 2023, he is now likely to make an early comeback. In the films Justice League, Suicide Squad, and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck portrayed Batman. He briefly planned to star in and direct The Batman before changing his mind.
The sequel, with the working title Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, will be helmed by James Wan with a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren, Nicole Kidman, and Randall Park are among the other actors in the movie. Information about the plot is secret. The 2017 superhero mashup Justice League featured Affleck’s final performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman. In Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he further made an appearance as the Caped Crusader. Both movies came out in 2016.
