The Duffer Brothers have a lot on their plates. Netflix has signed on for more projects from Matt and Ross Duffer, including a series adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s fantasy classic “The Talisman,” in collaboration with their production business Upside Down Pictures. Curtis Gwinn, who worked as a writer-exec producer on Duffers’ Stranger Things, will serve as the project’s writer and showrunner. Spielberg has been working on the project for almost 35 years.
Through their production company Upside Down Pictures, which was formerly known as Monkey Massacre Productions, Matt and Ross Duffer will serve as executive producers, while Steven Spielberg, along with collaborators Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, will do the same through Amblin Television.
Although the project was once again mentioned in a revised agreement with The Duffer Brothers in July 2022, Netflix first announced it in 2019. King and Paramount Television both have executive producer roles. Todd Cohen, together with Spielberg, Frank, and Falvey, will direct the project’s day-to-day progress for Amblin.
What is The Talisman’s storyline?
The 1984 book of the same name by Stephen King and Peter Straub will serve as the basis for the television series. When the novel first reached the shelves in 1984, it became an instant bestseller, and King and Straub collaborated again on a sequel in 2001. This is the summary for it:
In Talisman, a 12-year-old boy named Jack Sawyer embarks on a long road trip in an effort to save the life of his ailing mother. He is looking for the Talisman, a potent artefact that, as he discovers, not only has the potential to heal his mother but also to rescue the planet. As Sawyer travels, he encounters both the terrifying fantasy land known as The Territories and the familiar America.
When will The Talisman be available on Netflix?
The Talisman, a Netflix original series, is now in active development, which means the script is being developed and updated with pre-production to follow. We’ll keep you informed as we find out more.
Although Netflix hasn’t revealed how many episodes The Talisman will have, we anticipate it will have between 8 and 10.
Netflix hasn’t provided any release information for The Talisman, but given that it is still in the very early stages of development, we should only anticipate a 2023 or 2024 release date.
