Gemma Chan to Star in Netflix series The Moon Represents My Heart

Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and actress Gemma Chan’s upcoming film, The Moon Represents My Heart, had received approval from Netflix, reportedby the Hollywood Reporter. The movie, which is based on the upcoming book by author Pim Wangtechawat, is a coming-of-age tale that centres on a British-Chinese family that secretly has time-traveling abilities.

Following a brother and sister who must go through time to locate their parents when they unexpectedly disappear is The Moon Represents My Heart The book will be published by OneWorld Publications in the UK in the spring, and Keller Editore has acquired the Italian rights. This adaptation is the second time Levy and the streamer have worked together; Levy also directed The Adam Project and worked on Stranger Things.

In 2020, the director signed a five-year first-look agreement with Netflix and stated the following about the project, “I was hungry to find and enable other voices and visions, and share them with the broadest, most global audience possible. Netflix provides a unique platform and culture – one where our creative partners and instincts are championed, and stories that we tell across an eclectic spectrum of styles and tone can reach hundreds of millions of people around the world.

Chan, who will also star in the film, is President of 21 Laps and will produce alongside Levy and Josh Barry. The book was introduced to Netflix by senior vice president Emily Morris, who will also serve as the producers’ manager alongside Moera Ainai. Levy will direct Deadpool 3, although his best-known work is perhaps Free Guy, which starred Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer. The film later received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects.

Chan’s most recent appearance was in the Marvel Studios film Eternals. She will next be seen in the thriller Don’t Worry Darling, which is being directed by Olivia Wilde, the sci-fi film True Love from New Regency, and the climate change anthology series Extrapolations on Apple. The upcoming Anna May Wong biography, which is being produced by Nina Yang Bongiovi and written by Tony-winning playwright David Henry Hwang, also has the actress serving as executive producer.
