Lesley Manville to star in Alfonso Cuarón’s Disclaimer for Apple TV+

Disclaimer on Apple TV+ has welcomed another incredibly brilliant and well-known actress to its ever-growing cast. Variety reported today that Lesley Manville, who was nominated for an Academy Award, has been cast in the Alfonso Cuarón-directed film. She joins Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Hoyeon, and Louis Partridge in the thriller series, which was previously announced.

Disclaimer: It will be the first product to emerge under Curaón’s multi-year contract with Apple TV+ in 2019. The series will be written and executive produced by the filmmaker. Emmanuel Lubezki a three-time Academy Award winner, will serve as co-director of photography alongside Bruno Delbonnel . The film will be produced by Curaón’s Esperanto Filmoj and Anonymous Content.

The drama will follow the story of Catherine Ravenscroft, a hard-hitting television journalist who is based on Renee Knight’s book of the same name (Blanchett). Catherine is well-liked by her coworkers and the audiences who tune in to her intriguing stories about lies and deception. She usually follows stories of corruption in well-known and well-respected businesses. When the journalist discovers a mysterious novel written by a widower (Kline) on her bedside table one evening, the tables are turned on her. Catherine opens the text with equal parts curiosity and trepidation, only to discover that she is the central character in a life-threatening story she had assumed had been left far behind in the past.

Manville has signed on to play the character of Nancy. Nancy’s life has been difficult, and when her small son dies, things become even more difficult and devastating for her. Nancy, bereft of her son, finds it difficult to comprehend the sense of continuing to life without him. She is now confined to her home, cut off from the rest of the world, with her spouse.

Manville has received numerous prizes and honours over the course of his long and famous acting career. For her supporting part in the 2018 Paul Thomas Anderson romance drama Phantom Thread, the actress has received five BAFTA Award nominations as well as the aforementioned Academy Award nomination. She also starred in the long-running comedy series Mum, for which she won an Olivier Award. Next up, she’ll be seen on Starz in the Dangerous Liaisons series adaption and the upcoming fifth and sixth seasons of The Crown.
