Global icon Ricky Martin will star in the Apple TV+ comedy series Mrs. American Pie, reported by Deadline. The news comes while the Grammy winner and Emmy nominee is in Cannes, preparing to perform alongside Christina Aguilera at the American Foundation for Aids Research gala later this week.Martin will play Robert, the male lead in Mrs. American Pie, and joins Kristen Wiig, Alison Janney, and Laura Dern on the cast list for the series, which is executive produced by Dern.

Martin is well known for his song Livin’ La Vida Loca, but he is now said to desire to branch out into more serious acting. That will entail starring in the Apple TV+ show Mrs. American Pie, which is based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel. Wiig will also star in the 10-episode comedy as Maxine Summons, a woman attempting to take Palm Beach high society by storm.

Mrs. American Pie’s release date has yet to be announced, but we do know that you’ll need to be an Apple TV+ subscriber to view it. Dern and her producing partner Jayme Lemons created the series under their Jaywalker Pictures label. Katie O’Connell Marsh executive produces for Boat Rocker, and the novel was optioned through a first-look contract.

Sylvia will executive produce and showrun the series in addition to scripting it. Through their Wyolah Entertainment name, Taylor will direct and executive produce alongside his producing partner John Norris. Produced by Apple Studios. Janney just finished filming Gareth Edwards’ sci-fi epic True Love, in which she co-starred with John David Washington and Gemma Chan.
