According to recently released data, Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu helped propel streaming in the United States to another record high for market share in April.
Streaming accounted for 30.4 percent of overall TV viewing in the United States in April, according to Nielsen’s The Gauge monthly TV viewing snapshot. This was an increase from the previous month’s record high of 29.7 percent.
Overall TV viewing in the United States was down 2.1 percent from March, although streaming volume was nearly comparable, according to Nielsen.
According to the survey, HBO Max obtained a 1% share of streaming for the first time. Netflix, unsurprisingly, was the largest single streaming provider, accounting for 6.6 percent of all viewing in the United States in April.

It was followed by YouTube (6.1%), Hulu (3.3%), Prime Video (2.5%), and Disney+ (1.7 percent ). In April, the other streaming category, which includes players such as Paramount+ and Peacock, accounted for 9.2 percent of all US viewing.
Meanwhile, broadcast viewing fell 3 percent in April, losing 0.2 share points from March. According to Nielsen, this is attributed to an almost 15% decline in content from the Drama genre when season finales began to show. Sports viewing on broadcast networks fell by 38%, while news viewing remained steady.

Finally, the survey states that cable lost 0.2 share points in April and witnessed a 2.5 percent decrease in usage month over month. The NBA playoffs and the NCAA Final Four increased sports viewing on cable by 17 percent, but television news saw its first decreasing trend in several months for balance.
