House of the Dragon latest trailer: Game of Thrones prequel depicts the Targaryen civil war

House of the Dragon is an HBO fantasy drama written by George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal. It is based on Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood and is a precursor to the HBO television series Game of Thrones (2011–2019). Set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series follows the beginning of House Targaryen’s demise, as well as the events leading up to and during the Targaryen civil war, known as the “Dance of the Dragons.” In October 2019, House of the Dragon was given a straight-to-series order, with casting starting in July 2020 and principal photography starting in April 2021 in the United Kingdom. The launch date for the series is August 21, 2022. It will have ten episodes in its initial season.

On Thursday, a new House of the Dragon teaser was unveiled, teasing a “ugly game.” The teaser alluded to internal tensions among the Targaryen family regarding the Iron Throne’s successor. Fans learn that Princess Rhaenyra (Eve Best) has been named King Viserys’ successor, but her path to the throne is fraught with betrayal, bloodshed, and more. Internal civil strife will open doors for Starks, Velaryons, and Lannisters to enter the empire and bring it down.

A peek of the dragon is also shown in the teaser. The House of Targaryen pledges to preserve control over Wesreros in the teaser trailer. However, given the ruling family’s internal struggles to attain the throne. Aside from the teaser video, HBO also released nine posters featuring the cast members and the roles they will play in the series. Rhaenyra Targaryen, Daemon Targaryen, Viserys Targaryen, Ser Otto Hightower, Alicent Hightower, Corlys Velaryon, Rhaenys Targaryen, Ser Criston Cole, and Mysaria are among the characters mentioned.

The teaser made viewers nostalgic by showing glimpses of locations from the Game of Thrones series, such as Storm’s End’s painted table that doubled as a map and King’s Landing’s Great Hall. Game of Thrones fans have expressed excitement for the upcoming prequel. Many fans expressed their excitement for the series, hoping that it will not disappoint them like Game of Thrones’ eighth season.
