Lee Byung-hun, the popular Korean superstar who returns to Netflix after “Squid Game” with the new drama “Our Blues” says the multi-starrer series is about the scars that people carry with them and how they overcome these wounds.
“It’s Okay, That’s Love” a collaboration between popular writer Noh Hee-kyung and director Kim Kyu-tae of “Our Blues” fame, brings together an exciting cast of some of Korea’s biggest names.
Lee, who has appeared in shows such as “A Bittersweet Life” “I Saw the Devil” and “Mr Sunshine” as well as Hollywood productions such as “GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra” and “Red 2” will play a truck maker on Jeju Island in the omnibus-style drama about heartbreak and healing.
“Every soul, it is said, bears a scar. This drama depicts those scars and the people who have them. Living life entails attempting to forget and overcome those scars. People with wounds and how they overcome those scars will be depicted in the drama in a touching way, giving viewers hope “Lee stated this to reporters at a press conference in Seoul on Wednesday.
The actor also spoke about working with “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” star Shin Min-a for the third time during the press conference, which was live streamed on Netflix Korea’s website.
In the drama, both actors are paired together, as is Shin Mina’s -real-life boyfriend Kim Woo-bin.
“Min-a and I first collaborated on her debut piece. Was it ‘Beautiful Days?’ she was my younger sister. It was, indeed. Then we collaborated on “A Bittersweet Life” in which my character had unrequited love for her. It’s the first time we’ve been in a romantic relationship or had our characters like each other in a drama. “It was amazing to work with her; we had great chemistry,” said the actor, who starred as the lead in Netflix’s “Squid Game.” “, stated.
Shin Min-a, best known to Korean drama fans for her roles in “My Girlfriend Is a Nine-Tailed Fox” “My Love, My Bride” “Oh My Venus” “Tomorrow, With You” “Chief of Staff” and “Hometown-Cha-Cha-Cha” says her chemistry with Lee is better this time around.
When asked about playing a mother for the first time in her career, the 38-year-old actor said it was one of the main reasons she agreed to appear in the series.
“Min Seon-a (her character) is still wallowing in her grief. This was my first experience as a mother. The fact that she is a mother was less important to me than depicting her emotional changes and how she overcomes her pain. Surprisingly, I had a grasp on her personality and mindset, and I could feel her pain and determination to overcome it.”
“The main reason I took on this piece was because of Seon-character.” a’s Shin described her emotions and personality as “relatable.”
Noh, best known for writing shows such as “Live” “Dear My Friends” “It’s Okay, That’s Love” “That Winter, the Wind Blows” and “Worlds Within” said she decided to work on an omnibus format because she was tired of seeing stories in dramas revolve solely around male and female couples.
“I’ve wanted to try Omnibus style on a drama series for over ten years.” I was getting tired of only seeing a male lead and a female lead. We are all the main characters in our own lives. But why is it that everything in this drama revolves around two people?
The tvN drama will start streaming on Netflix India from April 9.
