A new page on the Will Smith’s slap-gate scenario at Oscars’22 might be unfolding today, i.e 8th April, 22. The Academy, last decided to hold a meeting where it can decide the consequences which Smith might or have to face regarding the Oscars’ unforgettable moment of the year. This year’s at the Oscar night, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock as the latter made a G.I Jane joke on Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett. Later on, Smith did apologise to Chris on a social media post, where he marked his actions as ‘inexcusable’. He also apologised to the Academy in the same post where he wrote, “There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness”, and also resigned from his position at the Academy on April 1.
Following the Will Smith-Chris Rock brawl at the 2022 Oscars, the Academy stated that they will hold a conference to explore possible punishments and disciplinary procedures against Smith for his behaviour at the 94th Academy Awards, which surprised and upset the industry. Many celebrities, including Jim Carrey, Amy Schumer, Daniel Radcliffe, and others, have voiced their viewpoints on the subject. According to current sources, the Academy’s board of governors will meet on Friday, April 8, instead of April 18. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the letter signed by Academy President David Rubin stated, “The April 18 date was set in accordance with California law and our Standards of Conduct because our agenda included the possibility of Mr. Smith’s suspension or expulsion from membership,” and added, “We were required to provide Mr. Smith notice 15 days prior to the board meeting at which such action might be taken, and also give him the opportunity to provide the board a written statement.”
While performing for the Boston audience, Chris mentioned, “I don’t have a bunch of s*** about what happened, I had like a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I’m still kinda processing what happened. So at some point, I’ll talk about that s***. So I’m gonna tell some jokes It’s nice to be out.” The comedian didn’t press charges against Smith.
