Will Smith appears to be missing out on career opportunities as a result of the heinous altercation at the Oscars. The upcoming projects of the King Richard star have been put on hold as a result of the backlash Smith has received since slapping Chris Rock on stage.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Netflix and Sony have put a halt to Will Smith’s new projects as a result of the incident.
“Netflix was looking for a new director for “Fast and Loose” after David Leitch dropped out before the Academy Awards,” THR reported. Smith was to play a crime boss with a bad memory.
“Sony is also putting a halt to “Bad Boys 4,” which had been ramping up ahead of the awards show,” the outlet added.
Will smacked S Rock across the face for mocking Jada Pinkett Smith’s medical condition, Alopecia. Smith, on the other hand, apologized for his actions on Monday evening.
“Violence, in all of its manifestations, is poisonous and destructive.” Smith wrote, “My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.” “Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.”
Chris, I’d like to publicly apologize to you. I was out of line, and I was mistaken.
“I am embarrassed, and my actions did not reflect the man I want to be,” he continued, for the first time directly apologizing to the man he hit. “There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
Fast and Loose is currently described as a thriller about a crime boss who loses his memory after being attacked. Smith’s character discovers, after piecing together clues, that he has been living a double life as a wealthy kingpin and a broke CIA agent. Netflix, which is now hesitant to move forward with the film, is said to be unsure whether it will try to restart the project with a different star and director.
