Creed 3: Studio Allegedly Hiding About Budget for Follow-Up

According to a recent rumour, Creed 3 production company MGM is allegedly lying about the film’s budget.

In the most recent installment of the Rocky/Creed series, MCU actor Michael B. Jordan replaced Black Panther director Ryan Coogler as director and star of the in-ring epic.

This time, as a long-forgotten buddy in Jonathan Majors’ Damian Anderson returns to claim what he believes is owed, Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed was tested to the breaking point.

MGM’s Lie about Creed 3

With a strong supporting cast that includes Jordan and Majors and generally favourable early reviews, MGM appears to be in for yet another blockbuster success.

According to Matthew Belloni of Puck, MGM appears to have lied about the cost of Creed 3.

In his weekly message, Belloni observed that the budget for Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut, which the studio is reporting as having a $75 million budget, is actually closer to $90 million when the expense of reshoots is taken into account.

Belloni jokingly said that since the movie is “a hit,” MGM should “be honest” about the viewership figures.

Creed 3 just had a successful debut weekend, winning the domestic box office fight after 12 rounds. The boxing hit made $41.8 million abroad and $58.7 million locally.

The movie now has a global gross of $100.7 million, making it the largest sports movie debut ever in the US.

With “more than half the audience [being] between 18-34, and three-quarters were non-white,” Belloni stated that the Creed threequel’s audience thus far has been “a far cry from the old, white Rocky audience.”

Additionally, he stated that “IMAX and other large format cinemas contributed approximately 40% of the gross.”

What Motivated MGM to Misrepresent Creed 3?

The report from Matthew Belloni may cause some people to wonder, “How and why would MGM mislead about the budget of one of their films? “

In reality, it is not that unusual. A studio will do so if they can appear to have saved money.

They seem to be maintaining this deception even after it has been established that Creed 3 is a huge success, which is odd. What difference does it make that the studio shelled out $15 million more than was initially stated?

The third installment of the franchise became the biggest one ever because to Creed’s box office success. And with a few weeks till products like Shazam! When The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Fury of the Gods, and John Wick: Chapter 4 arrive in theatres, the film’s box office success is likely to continue throughout March.

Naturally, MGM (and every other company in Hollywood) tries to make it appear as though everything was done as cheaply as possible when they have a golden goose on their hands.

The same tactic of budget reduction is used when things go wrong and a flop hits the big screen to make it appear as though the harm is not as severe.

Making money is ultimately what the movie industry is all about. Thus, if it can be done a little more easily (at least in the eyes of the general public), it will be.

Creed 3 is currently showing in theatres everywhere.
