An early glimpse at the weird animated mashup series Agent Elvis may be seen on a recent Netflix billboard. The project is the most recent work to fictionalize Elvis Presley’s life, a real-life rock star who first gained notoriety in the 1950s. He is most known for his compositions “Hound Dog,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” but he also had a successful acting career in Hollywood, appearing in movies including 1957’s Jailhouse Rock and 1961’s Blue Hawaii. The Baz Luhrmann musical biography Elvis starring Austin Butler, which has generated a lot of interest this awards season after receiving three Golden Globe nominations, was the most recent film to depict his life.
In honor of Presley’s birthday, the official Netflix Geeked Twitter account provided a fresh look at Agent Elvis, formerly known as Agent King. The billboard features an animated young Elvis holding a gun while grinning and donning sunglasses. Although the utilisation of Elvis’ legacy in this new adult animated comedy appears somewhat out of the ordinary, it has been done in odd cross-genre ways before. This is partly because of the singer’s enormous cultural legacy and partly because of the widely held conspiracy notion that Presley faked his own demise in 1977. Men in Black, a science fiction comedy from 1997, which suggests the crooner was an alien who returned to his home planet, gave credence to this concept.
The 1988 Chris Columbus film Heartbreak Hotel, which dramatizes a rumour about Elvis (David Keith) being kidnapped by a fan in 1972, is one of the most unorthodox representations of Presley. From there, things continue to grow bizarre in works like the animated short film “Scary Prairie,” in which Elvis battles monsters to save Marilyn Monroe. The Phantasm filmmaker Don Coscarelli’s 2002 film Bubba Ho-Tep, which depicts a mummy attacking a retirement home, may have the oddest depiction of The King. One of the occupants is Presley (Evil Dead’s Bruce Campbell), or at least a man who fervently believes he is the singer, which is a strange addition to this plain plot.

Agent Elvis’ official release date has not yet been specified. However, the fact that Netflix has begun to advertise it suggests that it will arrive within the upcoming months. Most information on the show is scant, but according to the Netflix synopsis, Elvis will “change a jumpsuit for a jetpack” when he is asked to join a covert spy agency to protect America from bad actors. Additionally, it is known that Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ ex-wife, and John Eddie collaborated on the creation of the series.
