Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, one of Netflix’s most anticipated Halloween releases for 2022, provided us with a fun-filled week of gruesome horror. However, the most crucial question is whether Netflix will renew Cabinet of Curiosities for a second season. There is currently no word, but we are hopeful that we will learn more shortly. Netflix’s original series have had the highest success in the horror genre. However, the fear has sometimes been severely missing during the Halloween season. Thankfully, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities provided a much-needed horror boost for the Halloween season. The choice to have a different filmmaker for each episode gives each one its own entertaining and distinctive approach to horror, making this one of the best horror anthologies we’ve seen on Netflix since Love, Death, and Robots.
Should Cabinet of Curiosities be renewed by Netflix?
As of this writing, Netflix has not decided whether to order a second season of Guillermo del Toro’s horror anthology. Before we learn the outcome of the choice about the future of the series, it can take Netflix a few weeks or months. To assess how well the series did during its first week on Netflix, we are now awaiting the arrival of the first set of hourly top ten data. However, it will take a few more weeks to assess how the show fared as a whole before we can determine whether Netflix will renew or cancel.
Cabinet of Curiosities would have been a successful limited series if it had been an anthology. But given the popularity of the animated anthology series Love, Death, and Robots, we shouldn’t be shocked that Netflix decided against limiting the show’s potential by cancelling it after just one season. This left the door open for Cabinet of Curiosities to be renewed since it was not listed as a limited series. However, because the series is an anthology, if Netflix decided not to renew, they could quietly lock that door without much issue. Should Netflix, however, re-up? Definitely. The subjective nature of which episodes subscribers preferred above others adds to the enjoyment of an anthology. Guillermo del Toro and the directors he has chosen are spoilt for choice because there are thousands, if not tens of thousands, of short horror stories that might be adapted.
Would Guillermo del Toro be interested in doing a second season?
Regarding the future of his anthology series, Guillermo del Toro has not yet provided a statement. Due to his hectic schedule, we might not hear anything about the Pan’s Labyrinth director’s plans for a second season for some months. Del Toro has recently been working on his stop-motion animated Pinnichio adaption for Netflix. Additionally, he is co-writing and co-producing the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark sequel. Additionally, he has been listed as a producer for an unnamed werewolf western. And lastly, he’ll be in charge of a future Michael Mann documentary that hasn’t been given a title. Enough said about Guillermo del Toro’s demanding schedule.
