Emilia Clarke, who starred in Secret Invasion and Game of Thrones, has just been cast as the title character in Sophie Hyde’s An Ideal Wife. In the movie, Clarke will play Constance Lloyd, the real-life wife of Irish children’s novelist Oscar Wilde, in the title role. The film will center on Lloyd’s marriage to Wilde, as presented from her viewpoint after learning that her spouse was gay. Lloyd is also an activist and writer in her own right. Similar to Hyde’s most recent hot comedy-drama, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, the movie will focus on Lloyd’s sexual awakening after receiving the radically altering information.
Cyril and Vyvyan were two of Wilde and Lloyd’s sons. Because Wilde wasn’t present, Lloyd had to become a single father. Although they never had a divorce, after Wilde was imprisoned for homosexual conduct in 1895, Llyod withdrew her boys from London to Switzerland and gave them the last name Holland to escape any future association with the incident. An excellent author, Lloyd contributed to newspapers and magazines and authored two children’s books. She vigorously supported and advocated for the progressive clothing reform movement in her capacity as an activist. While residing in Genoa, Italy, with both of his boys, Lloyd passed away in 1898 at the age of 40.
In terms of features, she will be heard in the animated picture Amazing Maurice by Toby Genkel and Florian Westermann as well as in the live-action comedies Pod Generation by Sophie Barthes and McCarthy, a political biography directed by Václav Marhoul. With her imminent appearance in the eagerly awaited MCU and Disney+ series, Secret Invasion, Clarke will soon join the Marvel family, and fans are getting ready to welcome her. She will join a cast that also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Olivia Coleman, and Don Cheadle in the unnamed film that will be released in 2023.
