Honda Motor’s American unit is recalling around 2.5 million vehicles due to the risk of fuel pump failure, which can lead to engine stall while driving, increasing the chances of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall includes popular models such as the 2018-2020 Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey, and some Acura models. Dealers will replace the fuel pump module at no cost, and owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by February next year.

This announcement follows a recall issued by the NHTSA on about 106,030 CR-V hybrid vehicles the day before, citing the risk of fire or injury in a crash caused by an overheated battery cable or short circuit.

In addition, Toyota Motor has recalled 1 million vehicles in the US market over a defect that could prevent airbags from deploying, increasing the risk of injury. The recall covers various Toyota and Lexus vehicles with model years from 2020 to 2022, including Avalons, Camrys, Highlanders, RAV4s, Siennas, Corollas, and some hybrids. The recall is due to improperly manufactured sensors in the front passenger seat that may short circuit, causing the airbag system to fail to determine the occupant’s correct weight and potentially not deploy in certain crashes.
