A conservative Super PAC has announced plans to allocate at least $10 million towards supporting Senator Ted Cruz’s bid for reelection in Texas.
According to an initial report by The Washington Post on Wednesday, the Club for Growth Action intends to invest a substantial amount of money to bolster the Texas Republican’s campaign efforts. This decision comes in the wake of Texas Representative Colin Allred’s victory in the Democratic primary against state Senator Roland Gutierrez on Tuesday.
David McIntosh, the president of Club for Growth, affirmed the organization’s steadfast support for Senator Cruz, stating, “Club for Growth Action has been strongly behind Sen. Ted Cruz since he was first elected, and we plan to spend 8 figures in his race against [President Biden’s] MVP Rep. Colin Allred.” McIntosh also criticized Allred for aligning with President Biden on policies perceived as detrimental to the economy, inflation, and public safety.
In response, Allred has focused his campaign on issues such as abortion rights and has criticized Republicans, including Cruz, for what he perceives as a lack of support for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and reproductive rights.
“Allred has a long record of siding with Biden on the leftist policies wrecking the economy and driving inflation and dangerous crime,” McIntosh continued.
In a statement, Allred highlighted concerns over Cruz’s positions on reproductive rights, stating, “Texans who want nothing more than to start a family are scared, and Ted Cruz’s dangerous record has put their rights and freedoms at risk.”
The campaign rhetoric has intensified, with a pro-Cruz super PAC releasing a video targeting Allred shortly before the close of polls in the Tuesday primary. The video, issued by the Truth and Courage PAC, labeled Allred as the Democrats’ “most radical recruit” and asserted that he is “too radical for Texas.”
