PS5 DualSense Teardown Reveals How Sophisticated The Adaptive Triggers Really Are

DualSense controller

Alongwith the new PlayStation 5, Sony is bringing a new DualSense controller to the market. It is a completely fresh and more advanced controller that marks the end of the DualShock branding. The new controller isn’t just a buffed up version of the older controller but has an ergonomic design, haptic feedback and triggers that are adaptive. These features have been attracting some serious attention.

The Insides Of DualSense Controller

YouTuber TronicsFix was able to get hands on experience with one of these DualSense controllers. He also took apart the controller to find out what kind of tech had Sony actually put into the device. His aim to to find out how easily a broken DualSense controller can be repaired, but he also analyzed the adaptive triggers. When put together with the older DualShock 4, the new controller seems to be far more techy and the triggers alone feature a design that ensure smooth and haptic response. To vary the resistance on the adaptive triggers, a spiral gear arrangement was put in the controller.

It enabled the user to play games such as Deathloop to simulate the jamming of a gun or the feel the drawing of a bow to shoot an arrow. The entire assembly has been fitted in a modular controller design that allows easy replacement of parts when broken. The older controller had basic rumble features fixed in its body to send force response into your hands.

The new DualSense controller too has advanced rumble features. TronicsFix did find the similarities in the analog sticks. He also found its proneness to drift problems that the older DualShock 4 controller sometimes encountered. The new controller also features a huge 1560mA battery that enables it to handle all the new haptic features. The new DualSense controller will be released with the PS5 on November 12. However, if you’re adamant to get one for yourself already, you can simply grab one for $70 at retail. Pre-orders for the same are also available now.
