The epic narrative of The Lord of the Rings prequel is going to be released, and the moment has finally come.
And now, super fans who have been impatiently awaiting the release of J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power have been rewarded with the news that the series’ first two episodes will be screened in a few select theatres for one night only, two full days before the main release on Amazon Prime Video on September 2.
On Monday, August 22, when complimentary tickets went on sale, it looked as though the announcement of the showing had crashed the Cinemark website. The one catch is that snack fans are only accessible to Cinemark Movie Rewards members, so you’ll need to register online even if the tickets are free and include a $10 meal coupon. The episodes will be played in a number of cities in the UK, Ireland, Argentina, Colombia, Australia, and New Zealand in addition to the United States and Canada on Wednesday, August 31, at 7 p.m. local time. No other information has been provided yet, however, since the website is presently offline.
If seeing the Second Age of Middle-earth in a theatre isn’t an option, you may do it from the comfort of your own home—and if you schedule it just so, you can even watch it for nothing. While Prime Video typically costs £5.99 per month, by becoming an Amazon Prime member for £7.99 per month, you can enjoy all the perks of Prime Video streaming in addition to extras like free package delivery.
To watch the series, though, you may join up for a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime if you’re up for some binge-watching. The first two episodes of the eight-episode season will air on Friday, September 2, followed by a new episode every Friday until the end of the season. We estimate that if you join Amazon Prime on Thursday, September 15, you will be able to catch up on the three prior episodes and continue watching the remainder of the series until its conclusion on October 14.
However, there is a catch: it can be more difficult to obtain the test service if you’ve already taken advantage of the free trial. It’s worth checking with your account to see whether it’s still available as Amazon only gives existing customers the option to check it out again once each year.
