There are so many films that highlight that particular link with the guy we all name “Dad,” from poignant, romantic flicks like Kevin Hart’s recent dramatic turn in Fatherhood to hilarious daddy-daughter bonding pictures like The Mitchells Vs. The Machines. A couple more of our favourites are included below.
1. Fatherhood
CAST: Kevin Hart, Alfre Woodard, Paul Reiser, Lil Rel Howery

Fatherhood tells the story of a single, widowed father named Matt (Kevin Hart), who raises his daughter alone from the moment she is born when his wife passes away suddenly shortly after giving birth. And it would be enough to make it a triumphant and hopeful tale. It’s also a drama about the importance of community, with characters like Matt’s supportive boss, Paul Reiser, and Matt’s in-laws, Alfre Woodward and Frankie Faison, who are grieving but want their granddaughter to be loved and cared for.
You can definitely feel the love in this picture, thanks to superb performances and a heartbreaking plot based on Matt Logelin’s book, Two Kisses for Maddie: A Memoir of Love and Loss.
2. Father Soldier-Son

DESCRIPTION: It took nearly a decade to create the Netflix documentary Father Soldier Son. What started off as a New York Times piece on a US Army company deployed to Afghanistan became more focused on the life of one soldier, Brian Eisch, and his family.
This moving documentary, directed by Leslye Davis and Catrin Einhorn, depicts a husband and father whose identity is closely linked to his military duty.
3. The Adam Project
Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, and Walker Scobell are among the cast members.

DESCRIPTION: While Netflix’s The Adam Project, starring Ryan Reynolds, is mostly a fun retro sci-fi adventure, the film’s emotional underpinning is the topic of parenthood. Reynolds plays Adam Reed, a time traveller from the year 2050 who crashes his quantam jet into his own childhood garden in the year 2022, reuniting with his 12-year-old self, played by newcomer Walker Scobell. The two Adams then set out to find their father, played by Mark Ruffalo, who died in 2018.
4. The Mitchells Vs The Machines
CAST: Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Maya Rudoplh, Mike Rianda, Eric Andre, Olivia Colman
RATING: PG
Katie Mitchell (Abbi Jacobson) is excited to leave home and start college, but she has a fight with her father the night before she is scheduled to fly abroad. To make up, he loads up the car and drives her (along with the rest of their family) to her first semester of film school, where they may spend one final moment together. Unfortunately, their journey is cut short when a Steve Jobs-like computer expert presents his latest creation: an army of AI robots who show to be far more sophisticated than anybody could have predicted.
The robots rise up, and the Mitchells are the only family to avoid being captured by the malfunctioning gadgets, which means they must start getting along or face the consequences.
5. Da 5 Bloods
Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, and Isiah Whitlock are among the cast members.

DESCRIPTION: Spike Lee’s 2020 film follows four Vietnam veterans as they travel to Southeast Asia in attempt to unearth the remains of their old squad leader and perhaps uncover some hidden wealth. When David (Jonathan Majors), the son of former soldier Paul (Delroy Lindo), joins them, they must confront some of their father-son conflicts.
What starts off as an epic adventure picture quickly devolves into serious discussions on fatherhood and legacy.
