The Joker 2 is one of the most exciting forthcoming comic book projects. Joker: Folie à Deux is the name of the follow-up film directed by Todd Phillips, who also shared a picture of Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime reading the script last week. We now know who might be joining The Joker in this future sequel, riding the high of that thrilling news.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lady Gaga is in preliminary discussions to appear in Joker 2. While Warner Brothers is keeping the persona Gaga would portray a secret, THR reports that it would actually be a version of the fan-favorite character Harley Quinn. Since 2016’s Suicide Squad, when Margot Robbie introduced the DCEU continuity a separate reality from the Joker, the villain should be well known to the majority of DC movie fans.

Harley Quinn was made by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini for the popular 90s animated series Batman: The Animated series, for anyone who needs a refresher. Before she maddeningly fell in love with the psychotic clown, she was a prominent psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum and treated Joker. She went so far as to assume the persona of Harley Quinn in order to aid The Joker in escaping from Arkham. As they say, the rest is history.

Over the past 30 years, Harley and the Joker’s severely toxic relationship has offered comic book readers some of the best stories in the genre. If chosen, Lady Gaga would be ideal for the part. not only for her extraordinary acting talent, but also for her wonderful singing voice. But more on that in a moment. Gaga has shown she is an exceptionally talented actress in both A Star Is Born and House of Gucci. She has a wide spectrum of emotions, which might make Gaga the unexpected element this sequel needs to set itself apart from the first.

THR did not, however, stop there; the sequel’s genre is supposedly a musical. You heard correctly. It’s possible that Joker and Harley will sing in the rain in the follow-up to the sad criminal drama that strongly drew inspiration from movies like Taxi Driver. Surprisingly, this doesn’t seem to be a significant divergence from the character’s identity of the original. You don’t have to go too far back to see that these two insane baddies occasionally get the need to sing. In Harley’s first episode of Batman: The Animated Series, the two lovebirds performed a duet while terrorising Gotham. Joker and Harley both sing frequently in The Animated Series.
