Before it finally premiered on the streaming platform HBO Max, The Batman grossed over $750 million at the box office. The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, was the seventh film adaptation of the Dark Knight. Reeves’ adaptation, starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, has received critical acclaim, with many claiming that it rivals Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008). As the film finally becomes available on HBO Max, the official box-office total has surpassed $751.6 million, crossing three-fourths of a billion.

Despite initial criticism, Robert Pattinson’s Batman proved his critics wrong with his phenomenal performance as the Caped Crusader. The Twilight star, who has since appeared in acclaimed indie films such as Good Times and The Lighthouse, has now established himself as the definitive face of Batman for millions of fans worldwide.

In North America, how much did The Batman earn?

Due to the pandemic, The Batman was pushed back to 2022 from its original release date of 2021. After numerous production delays, the film was finally released worldwide on March 4th. The Batman has so far grossed $365 million in North America, making it one of Warner Bros.’ most profitable films in the post-pandemic era.

The Batman Collections in Other Countries

Despite numerous challenges, ranging from casting backlash to production delays, The Batman has done exceptionally well outside of the United States and Canada. The Batman has been a critical and commercial success, grossing a whopping $386.1 million overseas. The film did particularly well in the United Kingdom ($53.2 million), Mexico ($30.7 million), Australia ($27 million), France ($25.9 million), Brazil ($22.6 million), China ($22.5 million), Germany ($18.9 million), Spain ($11.8 million), Italy ($11.2 million), and Japan ($10 million). It also had the highest opening weekend for a Warner Bros. film in Iceland. Moreover, despite the pandemic, The Batman had the largest-ever debut in seven critical markets for any DC film.

The Batman falls short of the $250 million mark when compared to Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight. While the budgets for both films were very similar, The Dark Knight had a staggering box-office collection of $1.005 billion, easily beating The Batman. The Batman, on the other hand, is expected to draw a sizable audience when it premieres on HBO Max. In addition, The Batman will premiere on HBO on April 23 at 8 p.m. ET.

Following The Batman’s commercial success, Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros.’ President of Domestic Distribution, was all praise for the film.

“The incredible response we’ve seen in theaters across the country demonstrates both the enduring power of this iconic DC Super Hero and the enormous appetite out there for great movies on the big screen.” We congratulate everyone involved on this significant achievement.”
