Season 1 of Shadow and Bone debuted on Netflix in April of last year, exposing fans to the mysterious world of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse. The first season combined the plot of Bardugo’s novel Shadow and Bone with the characters from the Six of Crows duology to create a more intriguing story that appealed to both long-time fans and novices.
Season 2 is shaping up to be a significant step forward for the series, adapting the events of Sea and Storm and Six of Crows. While the series has been filming, news on Shadow and Bone has been limited; the most recent major update came four months ago, when we learned of a few more actors joining the cast. During Geeked Week, which runs from June 6 to 10, it’s likely that Netflix will release some sort of update.
But, in the meantime, Redanian Intelligence has provided us with another casting update. This blog focuses on news about The Witcher, but it also keeps an eye on other series like Shadow and Bone. It’s not an official announcement, but RI has a strong enough track record to warrant discussion.
Two new characters are introduced in Shadow and Bone
Two additional actors have apparently been recruited to the cast of Shadow and Bone. The first is Colonel Raevsky, played by Keir Charles (Flesh and Blood). Raevsky is a minor figure who appears when Alina first meets General Kirigan in the first Shadow and Bone book. He didn’t appear in the first season of the show, which leads us to believe that Raevsky’s role would be enlarged in the second. He’ll very certainly serve as a military leader in Ravka, battling our heroes. Who knows where his allegiances will land by the time the dust settles, given some of the twists and turns ahead in season 2?
Tijan Saar as Shay is the other new cast member for Shadow and Bone, according to reports. Saar’s previous credits include plays such as Macbeth and Grimeboy, but he’ll be making his cinematic debut in Season 2 of Shadow and Bone. Shay is thought to be a brand-new character for the Netflix series.
