Adam Copedom gives an optimistic report on his convalescence following a recent injury incurred during his in-ring action.
Appearing as a guest on Busted Open Radio, the All Elite Wrestling star, Adam Copeland, discussed his injury sustained in the Double or Nothing match against Malakai Black and his inadvertently dramatic fall from the top of a cage.
“I appreciate the concern about my apparent recklessness [laughs]. Rather than a leap, it was more a case of me just tumbling down,” he conceded. “It’s the curse that comes with being a professional wrestler, isn’t it? You convince yourself mid-match, ‘Yes, I can handle this.’ But then, the drop reminds you that you’re 50 years old.
“Thankfully, when I landed, my first thought was, ‘At least it’s not my Achilles,’ because it occurred on the same leg that I’ve previously injured. ‘Great, the Achilles is intact, maybe it’s just a strain or a simple bruise.’ It felt like my ankle and leg bones were compressed. I got up, pushed through the rest of the match, feeling a weird click but managed to finish.”
“Afterwards backstage, I thought it felt odd but not overly painful. Departing the venue for the Emergency Room, they berated me for standing on what turned out to be a broken leg. Live and learn, yet my top priority was to finish the match, especially considering what was planned with Gangrel and everything.”
“We had storylines to continue. The aim was also to highlight the strength of the House of Black and their impressive presentation. Despite the setback, I think we succeeded in a few areas.”
Successful Surgery for Adam Copeland on Monday
Good news followed as Copeland reported successful surgery, with a humorous acknowledgment of his initial ignorance of DoorDash, which was taught to him by Beth Phoenix.
“I underwent surgery on Monday, which went well albeit with a few complications due to the fracture’s proximity to the ankle joint. It’s what they call a Pilon fracture. Soft tissue between the joint and bones was damaged along with the fracture. A combination of a metal plate and screws were used to fix it. I’m avoiding the x-ray images because they’re not particularly reassuring.
“During my downtime, I’m getting the hang of DoorDash, reading a lot, and playing Dr. Mario. Although my husky has the inclination to cuddle, it’s not quite practical, but my Frenchies and Toyazi have been great companions. This is my seventh surgery, so I’m familiar with the recovery process, although lower body injuries are always a stark reminder of the challenges they present, similar to my previous Achilles injury.”
