American archaeologist Austen (Andrew Walker) travels to Malta with high hopes of a discovery that will secure his academic future. On the island, he meets Eva (Margaret Clunie), a dedicated beekeeper who continues her mother’s legacy through their family apiary. A bee-related emergency at the local library leads Austen and Eva to a hidden hive that could contain keys to a substantial Maltese archaeological secret. While Austen is certain of the site’s value, the bees are under national protection, and his research can only proceed under Eva’s vigilant supervision. Initially hesitant, Eva soon finds that her intimate knowledge of Malta is instrumental to Austen’s project. As they collaborate, Austen develops an affinity for the bees and their cultural significance, paralleling his growing affection for Eva.
