Anthony Henry recently discussed what could have been an alternate path in his professional wrestling career.
During a wave of releases on April 1st from All Elite Wrestling (AEW), both Anthony Henry and his tag team partner JD Drake from the Workhorsemen were among those let go. Fortunately, the situation improved for Henry as he was later rehired by AEW, with owner Tony Khan confirming his return once medically cleared.
In an intriguing revelation, Henry took to social media to reveal that he and JD Drake were on the verge of joining WWE together before their respective careers took different directions. It was Henry alone who ended up signing with WWE in 2021, adopting the ring name “Asher Hale” for NXT appearances.
Despite his January 2021 sign-on and TV debut in May, Hale’s WWE tenure was short-lived, as he was released in August of the same year.
However, Henry expressed his belief that had they both joined WWE, their journey would’ve eventually led them to AEW.
“Something not many know: @RealJDDrake was supposed to be signed, alongside myself, for WWE. Obviously, that didn’t happen. I often wonder what would have happened had that happened. I think we still would have ended up where we are, but the journey would have been different,” Henry posted on Twitter.

“To those who voiced their support for me this week: thank you from the bottom of my heart. I never knew that what I do impacted so many. I’ve never had anyone rally behind me like that. It is an unreal feeling. I love you all. See you soon! #punchinknockout #workhorsemen,” Henry expressed through a series of Twitter posts.
