The University of Alabama has secured the future of their men’s basketball program by finalizing a new contract with head coach Nate Oats, as announced by the athletic director.
Greg Byrne, the athletic director at Alabama, revealed via Twitter on Friday that Coach Oats’ new contract proposal is slated for review by the university’s Board of Trustees in the upcoming week.
“The success of our men’s basketball team under Nate’s guidance has been tremendous, and we’re thrilled he is reaffirming his commitment to Alabama. We eagerly anticipate his continued leadership of the program for the foreseeable future,” stated Byrne.
The 19th-ranked Crimson Tide, holding a 21-10 record, competed against Florida in the Southeastern Conference Tournament’s semifinal stage on Friday.
With Oats at the helm, Alabama secured the regular-season and conference tournament titles twice in the past three years. This season, despite challenges, including the absence of Latrell Wrightsell Jr. due to a concussion, the team still managed a strong performance.
Back in 2019, Oats was recruited by Alabama after his notable success with the Buffalo Bulls, which included NCAA Tournament appearances and conference titles. He took the reins from Avery Johnson, who’d achieved one NCAA tournament berth in four seasons.
Since taking over, Oats has led Alabama to the NCAA Tournament in all three of his years in charge.
