The strike at Leipzig airport led to a series of unexpected events for Real Madrid as they rescheduled their trip to avoid disruptions to their match schedule. Instead of their intended direct flight to Leipzig, the team’s plane landed in Erfurt, forcing them to embark on a bus journey of over 160 kilometers to reach their destination. However, what was supposed to be a routine journey took a harrowing turn when the Real Madrid team bus was involved in a collision on the A4 motorway between Eichelborn and Nohra.
According to reports from German newspaper Bild, a white Toyota collided with the Madrid team bus when the driver of the car overlooked the bus while changing lanes, causing damage to the outside rear-view mirror of the bus. The Toyota sustained damage estimated at around 3,000 euros, while the extent of the damage to the Real Madrid bus was still unclear at the time of the incident. Fortunately, despite the alarming nature of the collision, all passengers aboard the bus, including the Real Madrid squad and technical staff, were unharmed, and they were able to continue their journey without any significant disruptions.
Interestingly, the Real Madrid team members were unaware of the collision from inside the bus, as confirmed by the club to MARCA. It was only noticed by fans traveling behind the bus, who witnessed the incident. One fan, who was filming the bus from his car, lost control of his vehicle and collided with it, causing minor scratches on the driver’s side of the bus at the height of the double axle. Despite this additional mishap, the team arrived safely at their hotel, the Steigenberger, in the center of Leipzig around 2:40 PM, albeit with a few unexpected detours and incidents along the way.
The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of travel and the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers, especially in high-stress situations such as sports travel during critical match periods. Despite the challenges faced during their journey, Real Madrid managed to navigate through the obstacles and arrive at their destination ready to fulfill their commitments on the pitch.
