Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has officially announced Ankara’s support for a new framework deal between Hamas and Israel, aimed at facilitating a humanitarian pause and the exchange of hostages.
Fidan’s endorsement came following a phone conversation with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani on February 6th. The proposed framework deal was crafted by Qatar and Egypt, with Turkey expressing its backing for these diplomatic efforts.
Ankara has been actively engaged in seeking a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel for an extended period. Recently, the Chief of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), İbrahim Kalın, visited Doha on February 3rd to discuss peace initiatives with Hamas’ political bureau official, Ismail Haniyeh.
Turkey’s stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict emphasizes the necessity of a two-state solution, with the establishment of a sovereign Palestine state and east Jerusalem as its capital. Ankara advocates for a guarantor mechanism involving prominent regional and Western countries to endorse a lasting peace agreement between Israel and Palestine.
The endorsement of the proposed framework deal underscores Turkey’s continued commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East region.
