Tyler Boebert, the 18-year-old son of Colorado Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, found himself in legal trouble after being arrested by Rifle police officers on Tuesday. The arrest was in connection with a recent string of vehicle trespass and property thefts in the town, according to authorities.

While detailed information about the incidents hasn’t been released yet, Colorado Bureau of Investigation records indicate that Tyler Boebert was involved in breaking into vehicles to steal credit cards and other identification documents, including driver’s licenses and passports.

Tyler Boebert faces multiple felony charges, including criminal possession of multiple stolen financial devices and criminal possession of identification documents. Additionally, he faces over 15 additional misdemeanor and petty offenses, according to Rifle police.

A heavily redacted affidavit released Wednesday outlined how investigators identified Tyler Boebert. Reports of break-ins and thefts led authorities to review footage at a gas station, where Tyler Boebert was recognized. He was identified wearing a hoodie adorned with branding from his mother’s former restaurant, Shooters Grill. The officer used financial statements to track down the suspects and sought assistance from Rifle High School’s principal to verify their identities.

Tyler Boebert voluntarily agreed to speak with the officer outside his home on Tuesday, after which he was placed under arrest. He spent the night in jail after his arrest Tuesday and appeared in court on Wednesday, where his bond was set at $1,250.

In a statement, Rep. Lauren Boebert expressed support for her son, acknowledging his struggles with “very difficult, public challenges.” She affirmed her commitment to be there for him while emphasizing that he should be held accountable for his actions like any other citizen.

Tyler Boebert’s arrest follows a series of incidents involving the Boebert family and law enforcement. Most notably, Tyler was allegedly the victim of domestic abuse during a previous incident involving his father’s arrest in January on charges including third-degree assault and harassment.

Tyler Boebert is scheduled to return to court on April 11, and the judge has ruled that his affidavit be redacted due to the involvement of minors in the alleged break-ins.
