Cyndi Lauper’s Son Arrested in Connection to Harlem Shooting

The son of iconic Grammy-winning musician Cyndi Lauper, Declyn Lauper, found himself in the midst of legal trouble after being arrested in connection to a shooting incident in Harlem, according to reports from the Daily News.

The arrest unfolded shortly after a shooting occurred on West 112th Street near Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, with Declyn Lauper, 26, taken into custody mere minutes after the incident, as per police statements.

During the shooting, a 24-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was subsequently transported to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Lauper faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance, with his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court slated for Friday.

In addition to Lauper, Omar Lewin, 24, of Washington Heights, was also apprehended in connection to the gunfire incident.

This recent arrest is not the first encounter with law enforcement for Lauper, whose history includes a previous arrest in July 2022. At that time, police discovered Lauper seated in the driver’s seat of a stolen car, leading to charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Known by his stage name Dex Lauper, the troubled son of the ’80s pop sensation resides on the Upper West Side and is the only child of Cyndi Lauper.
