Rapper Kodak Black freed from jail after drug possession charge dismissed

South Florida rapper Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill Kapri, was released from jail on Wednesday after a federal judge sentenced him to time served for a probation violation. However, his legal troubles are far from over, as a drug trafficking case from 2022 remains ongoing.

U.S. District Judge Jose E. Martinez in Miami handed down the sentence following the dismissal of a drug possession charge in neighboring Broward County. Broward County Circuit Judge Barbara Duffy ruled that prosecutors could not refute the fact that Kapri had a valid oxycodone prescription filled by a pharmacy, leading to the dismissal of the charge.

Kapri’s arrest stemmed from an incident in December when Plantation police found him asleep at the wheel with white powder around his mouth. Initially suspected to be cocaine, lab tests later revealed it was oxycodone, for which Kapri had a prescription obtained in July 2022. Despite the prescription, the arrest violated his probation from an unrelated case, resulting in his incarceration in Miami for two months.

The rapper has a history of legal troubles related to drug offenses. In 2022, he was arrested on charges of trafficking in oxycodone and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Despite being released on bond with drug testing requirements, Kapri faced further issues after missing a drug test and testing positive for fentanyl. Subsequently, he was ordered into drug rehab for 30 days.

Despite the latest release, Kapri’s legal battles are ongoing, highlighting the complexities of his situation and the challenges he continues to face. As he navigates through the legal process, the rapper remains under scrutiny, with his future hanging in the balance.

The case underscores the importance of adhering to probation conditions and the consequences of violating them, even in the presence of valid prescriptions. As Kapri awaits further developments in his legal saga, the music industry and his fans eagerly anticipate his next moves amid the uncertainty surrounding his future.
