One of the ‘Heaviest’ snowfall received in Spain

On Friday evening, a number of vehicles became stranded on a motorway near the capital.

Madrid was one of the most affected areas, where it set to see up to 20cm(8 inches) of snow in the past 24 hours.

The city’s airport has been closed along with a number of roads.

Authorities have askes people to avoid non-essential travelling.

Firefighters were called in to assist drivers who had become struck. In some areas the military were even called in to clear the roads.

According to there local media, which states that the snowfall in the Madrid is the highest in at leasr 40 years. The country’s AEMET weather agency said the snowfall was “exceptional and most likely historic”.

While in Canada Real, the largest shanty town in western Europe, residents were seen creating a bonfire to keep them arm.

One man was even pictured skiing along the Gran Via, the capital’s famous street, which is usually packed with tourist and shoppers.
