Celebrating the achievements of women in the military is not just a tradition but a vital recognition of their contributions to global security. On International Women’s Day, Incirlik Air Base in Türkiye hosted a commemoration honoring the remarkable accomplishments of female NATO service members from various contingents.

International Women’s Day serves as a poignant reminder of the strides women have made in different spheres of life, including the military. This year’s theme, “Women Who Make Great Achievements,” resonated deeply with the diverse group of women stationed at Incirlik AB, highlighting their invaluable roles in defending NATO’s southern flank.

Situated in Türkiye and hosted by the Turkish 10th Tanker Base Command, Incirlik AB is a critical military installation that hosts members from the U.S., Spain, and Poland, all in support of NATO’s missions. Within this multinational environment, female service members play pivotal roles, showcasing their dedication, expertise, and leadership.

Among the notable women recognized during the International Women’s Day celebration were Turkish Air Force 1st Lieutenant Ozgecan Ozcan Engin, who skillfully pilots F-16s, and Turkish Air Force air lawyer Ceren Erden, who provides legal counsel to the base’s leadership.

The U.S. contingent at Incirlik AB also boasts exceptional female leaders, such as U.S. Air Force Maj. Danielle Caudill, Director of Operations for the 39th Force Support Squadron. Maj. Caudill’s dedication to her duties and her commitment to mentoring young officers, particularly women, exemplify the spirit of International Women’s Day.

Airman Jaclyn Schultz, a radar, aircraft, and weather specialist, was recognized as the 39th ABW Volunteer of the Year for her outstanding service and contributions to base initiatives. Her interactions with NATO partners reflect the collaborative spirit that defines the alliance.

Polish First Lieutenant of the Navy Monika Ryzowcz and Polish Lance Corporal Iwona Pol represent the Polish Military Contingent, fulfilling critical legal and operational roles. Their dedication to upholding local and international law underscores the importance of adherence to principles in multinational operations.

The Spanish delegation at Incirlik AB, including Lieutenant Maria Galan Garrido, Sergeant Sara Maria Cea Becerra, and 1st Sergeant Noelia Guevara Marquez, serves in the Spanish Patriot Battery unit, safeguarding the region from air-based threats.

These women, from different backgrounds and cultures, unite under the common goal of advancing democratic values and NATO interests in Türkiye. Their collective achievements not only bolster the security of the region but also serve as inspiration for future generations of female service members.

Colonel Kevin Lord, 39ABW commander, aptly summarized the significance of these women’s contributions, stating, “Thanks to the great achievements and routine cooperation of women serving Incirlik AB, the teamwork of NATO in Türkiye is stronger than ever.” Indeed, the celebration of International Women’s Day at Incirlik Air Base reaffirms the vital role of women in defense and underscores the importance of their empowerment in safeguarding global peace and security.
