More than a year after a failed test flight of its uncrewed rocket, Blue Origin, the space company founded by Jeff Bezos, is gearing up for another launch of its ‘space tourism rocket.’ The New Shepard rocket is scheduled for an uncrewed science mission from Blue Origin’s facilities in West Texas on Monday, as reported by CNN.

The previous test flight, which took place on September 12, 2022, experienced technical issues that led to the rocket emitting an enormous burst of flames. The New Shepard capsule, riding atop the rocket, initiated its launch abort system, resulting in the complete destruction of the rocket. Fortunately, no injuries were reported on the ground.

Jeff Bezos recently discussed the escape system during an interview, emphasizing its role in ensuring safety. He expressed confidence in the system, stating, “It is the reason that I am comfortable letting anyone go on New Shepard.”

The upcoming launch aims to demonstrate the capabilities of the New Shepard rocket on an uncrewed science mission, marking a significant step for Blue Origin’s space tourism aspirations.

The company Blue Origin founded by American billionaire Jeff Bezos will send humans into space for the first time on July 20, for a journey of a few minutes in zero gravity aboard his New Shepard rocket. A seat on a rocket is up for auction, but its price already exceeds $ 2.2 million. (Abaca via ZUMA Press/TNS)
