The original concept art for Dune villain Baron Harkonnen looks terrifying

Baron Harkonnen

The original concept art for Dune villain Baron Harkonnen looks different. Dune, which opened in theaters last end of the week, is the most current adaptation of the legendary Frank Herbert sci-fi novel of the same name. The sprawling epic, which is about the youthful child of an honorable house learning to face his pain while insurrection foments on the desert planet of Arrakis, stars Timothée Chalamet, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Zendaya, along with Rebecca Ferguson.

On his Instagram, concept artist Jerad S.Marantz shared the original design. Marantz, who has also dealt with major MCU projects like Avengers: Endgame and the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, as well as creating beasts for frightfulness projects like The Bye Man and Lovecraft Country, has combined his abilities for popcorn film spectacle and blood and gore flick menace in this design. In the image, Harkonnen looms over his lofty position, a unimaginably tall and broad presence who overpowers the setting similar as Supreme Leader Snoke in The Last Jedi. Look at the post beneath:

This design is exclusively of the body of the character before ensemble designers Kurt and Bart applied their hands to it, which explains his lack of clothing. In the final item, they wound up opting for a black tunic with a line of buttons up the middle. This outfit excels at accentuating the sheer stature of the redesigned character.

Dune certainly has viewed a way for the Baron as a trustworthy menace even with the current design for the character. There are a ton of ways for Dune 2, which was as of late greenlit, to use his character and harness the imperious energy he displays in these original designs. The character is one of the most interesting and layered in the Dune universe, and it will be interesting to perceive how the next film brings the remainder of the story to life.
