Lizzo, the talented singer and performer, has spoken out in response to the recent lawsuit filed against her by three of her former backup dancers. The dancers are accusing her of sexual and racial harassment, as well as creating a hostile work environment. In a lengthy statement shared on Instagram, Lizzo vehemently denies the allegations, stating that they are “too outrageous not to be addressed.”

The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Lizzo, her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc., and her dance team captain, Shirlene Quigley. The plaintiffs, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, claim that they were pressured by Lizzo into engaging in inappropriate behavior at a club in Amsterdam and were subjected to weight shaming.

Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, responds to these claims by stating that the stories are coming from former employees who have already admitted that their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional. She emphasizes that she takes her music and performances seriously and always aims to put out the best art that represents her and her fans. However, she denies ever intending to make anyone feel uncomfortable or undervalued as part of her team.

In addressing the specific allegations of weight shaming, Lizzo strongly denies ever engaging in such behavior. As someone who is body-shamed on a daily basis, she asserts that she would “absolutely never criticize or terminate an employee because of their weight.”

Lizzo’s statement also expresses her hurt over the accusations and the impact they have had on her and her brand. She affirms that she takes the respect that women deserve in the world very seriously and is saddened that her good work is being overshadowed by the lawsuit.

The plaintiffs’ attorney, Ron Zambrano, responded to Lizzo’s denial, stating that her comments add to his clients’ “emotional distress.” He accuses Lizzo of failing her brand and fans, and claims that her dismissive comments and lack of empathy only serve to minimize the trauma experienced by the plaintiffs and other employees who have come forward with negative experiences.

The lawsuit also alleges interference with prospective economic advantage and false imprisonment, and includes accusations of racial harassment from BGBT management towards Black members of the dance team.

It is clear that this is a complex and emotional situation for all parties involved. As the legal proceedings unfold, the truth will hopefully come to light, and justice will be served. In the meantime, Lizzo is standing firm in her denial and vowing to continue her good work in the world, despite the challenges she is facing.
